This month the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority has issued a warning about a potentially dangerous compound circulating in the state.

The agency is investigating reports that the compound, THC-O-acetate, was found in at least one batch and there could be more.

If combined with medical marijuana, THC-O-acetate, which is at least three times more potent than THC, can be harmful. Possible side effects include seizures, vomiting, and difficulty speaking.

THC-O acetate has been referred to by many as the weed on steroids.

OMMA says to always see the Certificates of Analysis and examine the lab test results when purchasing a medicinal marijuana product. This is so you can ensure you’re taking a safe product home.

If the dispensary refuses to show you the product’s COAs, OMMA suggests you purchase products from another dispensary that will.

The agency says that if you have had negative health outcomes after using a medical marijuana product purchased from a licensed dispensary, immediately contact a medical provider or the Oklahoma Center for Poison and Drug Control at 800-222-1222.
