While March was a frantic month due to the coronavirus pandemic and lockdowns, Ontario saw tremendous success during the month.

The Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS) released data on its sales over the past 12 months, from April 1, 2019, until March 31, 2020.

Reported by the Canadian Press and first published June 8, 2020, for the full fiscal year, the OCS website generated 71.4 million Canadian dollars while the government-run retail stores brought in CA$313.7 million in revenue.

For the month of March, the OCS’ online store processed a record number of transactions with 114,400 transactions. This was up 82% from the 62,800 that it processed in February. The next closest month was the OCS’ first month back in April with 7,500 transactions.

According to the OCS’s report, Ontario-based Aurora Cannabis (NYSE:ACB) was one of the top five brands popular among customers. The report also found that dried flower was the largest product category with CA$47.3 million sales on the OCS website and CA$227.6 million in stores. Aurora was a leader in the category as both its Aurora brand and San Rafael ’71 brand each made up 8% of sales both online and in retail stores.

“The numbers from our first full year of commercial operations show steady growth despite constrained supply that the limited the ability of the Ontario marketplace to rapidly expand the number of access points as quickly as desired,” said OCS president and CEO Cal Bricker.
