New York is another state where many people are advocating to relax marijuana laws. Law makers in the state are closer to allowing access to medical marijuana for New York residents who are suffering from post-traumatic-stress disorder, or PTSD.

According to the New York Daily News, New York’s state assembly voted to approve a bill this week, that would add PTSD to the list of qualifying conditions for treatment in the New York medical marijuana program. The legislation would then move to the state Senate where it would have to seek approval.

The state Senate, compared to the state assembly, is controlled by a Republican majority.

Talking o Spectrum News, Andrew Raia, a Republican state Assemblyman said, “20 percent, which I think is a low ball estimate, of our returning veterans have PTSD, and I’m sure that number is bigger.”

“Anything we can do to ease their pain, ease their suffering and prevent suicides I think we need to at least try.”
