Illinois began legal recreational marijuana sales at the start of the year and has seen immense success in its first quarter.
The state is approaching $110 million in the first quarter of legalization according to the latest official monthly sales data.
Combined with the previous two months’ data, the data now shows that nearly $110 million worth of legal cannabis products were sold in the first quarter of 2020.
For the month of March, Illinois saw revenue from adult-use sales total $35.9 million, according to the state’s Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. This was 3% higher than the February tally but down 8% from January.
“Three straight months of consistent adult use cannabis sales show there is — and will continue to be — strong support and demand from consumers,” the Department said.
Marijuana dispensaries have been classified as “essential” businesses during the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic. They are allowed to sell cannabis products for both recreational and medical uses.
