According to researchers, extracts from marijuana plants can help treat pain and spasticity symptoms in people who have multiple sclerosis.

A systematic review was recently presented at the Consortium of MS Centers that said that cannabinoids could have “modest effects in multiple sclerosis for pain or spasticity.”

The review also suggested that future research include studies with noncannabinoid comparisons.

National Multiple Sclerosis Society hosted a web survey that found that 66 percent of people with MS said they currently use cannabis for symptom treatment.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord.
