Marisa Rodriguez, San Francisco’s former Assistant District Attorney, has been named the city’s new director of its Office of Cannabis.

Rodriguez started the job this week on Monday and now oversees the permitting process for businesses along each step of the pot industry in the city. This means from cultivation to distribution to retail sales.

City Administrator Naomi Kelly, who oversees the Cannabis Office noted that Rodriguez was involved in retroactively eliminating over 9,000 marijuana-related convictions.

According to Kelly, Rodriguez would focus on “fostering equitable participation in the cannabis industry and creating business opportunities for those most impacted by the war on drugs.”
