Imagine being a college student and knowing that you’re in high demand before you even graduate. This does not happen! Most students are stressed out wondering how to get a job after school is over.

Students at Northern Michigan University who are majoring in medicinal plant chemistry, may find it easy to land a job in the fast growing marijuana arena once they graduate.

“At the undergraduate level, we’ve tried to take some of the experiences… that a chemistry student might get in graduate school working on a master’s or a PhD, and we’ve kind of funneled that into a four-year undergraduate program,” Brandon Canfield, NMU’s associate professor of chemistry, said to Yahoo Finance.

“The whole program itself is a chemistry degree,” he said.

According to Canfield, there are over 200 students interested in the program.

He has said that at NMU there’s “a focus on the analysis of the plant. What are the compounds in the plants, how do you get them out, how do they change when you take them out, how do they change when you’re producing other products, edibles, topicals, that sort of thing.”
