A new study done on rats has found that using marijuana during teenage years may change the decision making part of the brain.
Study coauthor Eliza Jacobs-Brichford spoke at the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience on November 7th and said that “Adolescence is a dangerous time to be insulting the brain, particularly with drugs of abuse.”
As part of the study, she and her colleagues gave adolescent rats, male and female, a marijuana-like compound and found after that the parts of the brain that are key in making decisions had been altered.
“Males look more susceptible to these drugs,” remarked Jacobs-Brichford.
