It’s official. Former Vice President under Barack Obama, Joe Biden, has entered the race for presidency.

Biden announced his run on Thursday and tweeted, “The core values of this nation… our standing in the world… our very democracy…everything that has made America — America –is at stake. That’s why today I’m announcing my candidacy for President of the United States.”

Given Biden’s background on waring against drugs for decades, many wonder where he stands on marijuana.

So far many of the 2020 Democratic candidates, such as Bernie Sanders, are for marijuana legalization on a federal level.

In a statement sent to Rolling Stone, Erik Altieri, the executive director of the marijuana reform organization NORML, has said that Biden has an “abysmal record when it comes to marijuana law reform, ending our failed war on drugs, and addressing mass incarceration.”

He added, “Biden’s views are far out of step with the American public and he holds the worst record on cannabis related policy of any individual currently running for the Democratic or Republican nomination.”
