The 2020 presidential race is upon us and Bernie Sanders just announced that he would be running for president again this week.

The Senator from Vermont has already received over 600,000 contributors to his campaign.

So how does Bernie feel about marijuana? He’s actually considered to be one of the most friendly candidates there is towards marijuana.

Vermont is a liberal state where marijuana was made legal this year. Not even through a referendum but through a vote in the state legislature. This marked history as this was the first time a state in the country legalized the drug using this road.

Sanders has advocated for marijuana reform for decades and in 1995 he had co-sponsored a bill in the House that would authorize medical marijuana in cases of “life-threatening” and “sense-threatening” illness.

In 2015 he filed the first bill in the Senate to end cannabis prohibition and also signed onto New Jersey Senator Cory Booker’s Marijuana Justice Act and called for the de-scheduling of the drug.

He was the first major presidential candidate back in 2016 to call for both parties to remove marijuana from the list of controlled substances.

Here’s to you Bernie Sanders, good luck winning the race!
