Zimbabwe has now become the second country in Africa to legalize the cultivation of cannabis.

It’s been illegal up until now to grow, posses, or even use marijuana in the southern African nation. People who did any of the above have had to face up to 12 years in prison.

The government announced in a legal notice that the people of Zimbabwe can now apply for licenses to grow marijuana for medical and research purposes.

Health Minister David Parirenyatwa published new regulations that lets Zimbabwens and companies in the country to license and cultivate mbanje, the local term for marijuana in the country.

The renewable licenses are good for five years and allow growers to posses, transport, and sell fresh as well as dried cannabis and cannabis oil.
