North Dakota’s Health Department started to accept proposals from laboratory companies that want to test medical marijuana in the state this week.

The state began to accept proposals on Wednesday and the lab that will be selected will be testing marijuana for contaminants that include pesticides. The lab will also be ensuring that levels of THC are accurately labeled.

Already seven laboratory companies showed interest last summer and the state’s Health Department had asked for non-binding letters of intent in order to ensure a lab would be available for testing.

These seven labs can now officially apply through April 19th at 3pm.
Medical marijuana is legal in the state for 17 medical conditions as well as for terminal illnesses.

“While the state isn’t paying for the cost of compliance tests, we recognize that testing prices impact the final cost of the products,” remarked Medical Marijuana Division Director Jason Wahl.

“Therefore, proposals received will be evaluated on cost, and costs for tests will be included in the contract.”
