The state of Utah is inching closer and closer to perhaps having a medical marijuana program.

The state has begun to gather signatures so that medical marijuana can be on the 2018 ballot.

The Utah Patients Coalition announced on Thursday that it has finished the preliminary steps needed for the medical marijuana ballot initiative.

As part of the preliminary steps, this included a fiscal impact statement to tax payers and seven public meetings.

According to the Coalition, it has plans for volunteers to start collecting and asking for signatures as early as next week.
