Alabama marijuana advocates may not be thrilled to learn that a bill signed recently won’t grant access to medical marijuana.

The state’s Governor Kay Ivey has signed a bill this week that is related to medical marijuana but doesn’t legalize the substance for those with medical needs.

The bill creates a 15-member Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission to study the effects of medical marijuana. It also renews Carly’s law, allowing children with seizures to legally use cannabis oil.

The commission will study the drug in order for a medical marijuana bill to be introduced in the 2020 legislative session.

Members of the commission will include physicians with certain specialties and appointees will be made by the governor, Senate president pro tempore and House speaker.
