Albuquerque’s City Council has voted to allow indoor cannabis smoking lounges.

An amendment to the Albuquerque Clean Air Ordinance now allows for indoor cannabis smoking lounges while smoking outdoors in public remains illegal.

Right now, you can legally use cannabis in your home, and it is illegal to smoke or eat cannabis products anywhere in public.

On April 4th the council had decided whether or not to create these designated indoor areas where you would be able to use cannabis legally.

“This does not make it legal to smoke in public it is still illegal under state law. All we’re doing is cleaning up this indoor air act to focus on indoor air,” said District 7 councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn.

The lounges would still have to get a conditional use permit from the city and a license from the state but they would be legal. The council also says you are still eligible for a $50 fine if you are caught consuming cannabis in public.
