Due to the coronavirus pandemic and rules of social distancing, a group in Arkansas that has been seeking a constitutional amendment to legalize marijuana recreationally, has had to stop collecting signatures.

Arkansas True Grass wanted an amendment to legalize marijuana use and expunge prior drug convictions on the Nov. 3 ballot.

Briana Boling, the group’s spokeswoman, told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette True Grass could not have collected the nearly 90,000 required signatures by the July 3 deadline because events were canceled due to the pandemic.

She says the group will refocus its efforts on the 2022 ballot. Meanwhile, the group Arkansans for Cannabis Reform continues to gather signatures.

According to their website, Arkansas True Grass is a Grass Roots Movement to Legalize Cannabis in Arkansas. The group supports the Cultivation and Legalization of the Cannabis Plant for all purposes.

They sponsor a Recreational Marijuana Amendment an Amendment to the Arkansas Constitution that will legalize and regulate marijuana for recreational purposes, and one that will set the captives free and clear all nonviolent Marijuana offenses.
