According to the B.C. Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth, second-hand cannabis smoke is a big concern and actually a top concern of the province.

The province is nearing the end of public consultation on marijuana regulation and is working to draw up rules for the sale and consumption of recreational marijuana before it is legalized next July.

The province’s public consultation period ends Nov. 1.

According to Farnworth, there are more than 30,000 responses to go through but it is already clear that many are worried about the second-hand smoke of marijuana.

“People have very strong views, particularly when it impacts their private space, such as their condo unit for example or their backyard or whatever,” he said.

“It’s one that was fully anticipated as an issue, so I expect, in fact I know, it will be dealt with in the new regulatory framework.”
