2020 may be a very difficult year for so many across the U.S., but some marijuana enthusiasts in Baton Rouge have something to look forward to with the new year coming.

A couple in Baton Rouge with over 20 years of experience in the local food industry will be opening up the state’s very first Cheba Hut restaurant in the city next year.

Meredith Beck-Wiggins and Tommy Wiggins will be opening the restaurant early next year on Ben Hur Road, off Burbank Drive, and will employ between 20 to 30 people. Along with seating for roughly 50 inside, the 2,400-square-foot restaurant will also feature a patio with seating for 30 and an outside bar.

The couple was first introduced to Cheba Hut, a cannabis-themed toasted sandwich shop, on a trip to Colorado nearly two decades ago. There is no cannabis served at the restaurant but menu items have cannabis related names.

The Wiggins currently own the rights to open three restaurants and are hoping to open eight to 10 eventually in south Louisiana, and are looking to Lafayette and Hammond as their next cities for expansion.
