Canada has been making big headlines as it inches closer to making marijuana recreation-ally legal. The country’s Prime Minster Justin Trudeau announced over a year ago that he plans to legalize the drug nationwide.
While this is a great move forward for the country, there may be a problem. There might not be enough marijuana to sell. Medical marijuana has been flourishing in Canada and with the rapid growth of patients in the last year, suppliers are having a rough time keeping up. The fact that there aren’t a lot of suppliers either is a big concern.
“Ultimately the biggest problem that appears after today’s discussion is one of supply,” Ontario Minister of Finance Charles Sousa said to Bloomberg.
“So we want to make certain that, when we do proceed, there is sufficient supply to accommodate the activity because what we’re trying to do is curb the illicit use and organized crime that now exists around it.”
Such a shortage could lead to a delay in the country legalizing the drug in order to avoid black market sales.
