An Australian company named Botanix is developing the very first acne treatment in 20 years that could fight acne by using a synethic version of cannabidiol. There have been no new pharmaceutical acne treatments in two decades.

Only the nonpsychotropic molecules of cannabis would be used so there would be no added high effect for teenagers.

The company just announced this week the safety study on humans of the cannabis compound BTX 1503.

According to the results, the compound “has an excellent safety profile, with little to no skin irritation and no severe adverse events were recorded”. There was however skin dryness as the most common adverse effect.

According to the company’s executive director Matthew Callahan, phase 2 clinical trials will begin on patients within months in Australia.
