The hemp community in Kentucky has rallied around the farmers, businesses and researchers affected by devastating tornadoes that swept through western Kentucky and southern Illinois last week.
December tornadoes caused at least 76 deaths and destroyed at least 1,000 properties, including the complete destruction of agricultural research centers at the University of Kentucky’s Princeton campus in Caldwell County that housed some of the university’s hemp research.
Kentucky hemp companies have quickly joined forces to round up resources for those affected by the tornadoes.
Below is a list of resources seeking donations to support the Kentucky communities that lost so much right before the holidays (list provided by Carrollton, KY-based Victory Hemp Foods).
- Dawson Springs Tornado Relief Fund: The Kentucky Hemp Association (KYHA) has set up a GoFundMe page to help Dawson Springs, KY. KYHA President, Katie Moyer, and her family are residents of Dawson Springs and they have been on the ground providing food, water, generators, candles, blankets, Christmas gifts for kids, etc. to the community. Katie will use the money from the page to purchase supplies for people in need.
- Kentucky Agriculture Relief Fund: Setup by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and the Kentucky Farm Bureau to provide monetary support for impacted farmers.
- Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund was set up by Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear. Go to the page in the link or AT&T’s text-to-donate campaign allows anyone to text “KENTUCKY” to 20222 in order to donate $10 to the Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund.
- KSR and Kentucky Chamber Foundation Relief Fund: Kentucky Sports Radio and the Kentucky Chamber Foundation set up a GoFundMe page.
- If anyone is local to the area they are also asking people to give blood, visit the Kentucky Blood Center website at kybloodcenter.org or Blood Assurance website at bloodassurance.org.
