So far the state of Louisiana has 5,000 patients enrolled in its medical marijuana program.

It’s been only two weeks since the state began allowing patients to receive medical marijuana and according to regulatory officials, thousands of people are receiving the drug.

John Davis, president of GB Sciences Louisiana, one of two state-sanctioned medical marijuana growers, said this week that Louisiana has about 5,000 cannabis patients so far.

Louisiana was the first state in the Deep South to dispense medical marijuana on Aug. 6th.

“The feedback that we’re getting from patients is really overwhelming, with patients who were having epileptic seizures of 18 a day now down to two,” Davis remarked.

“It appears the supply chain is working perfectly, or as well as it can be,” Davis said. “We’re able to satisfy the demands that are out there.”

Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain however has said, “We don’t want to run out.”

Currently only the agricultural centers at Louisiana State University and Southern University are authorized to grow medical marijuana.

The drug is not available in smoke-able form.
