It’s only been days since the state of Maryland launched its state sanctioned program for medical marijuana, and already dispensaries are running out of supply.

Out of seven of the licensed dispensaries that opened last Friday, five of them have already completely or almost run out of flower. Flower is the raw part of marijuana that is vaporized or smoked. The stores also have a limited amount of other marijuana products.

Kannavis Owner Jane Klink said she was hoping for additional marijuana shipments before the weekend but said, “We don’t have confirmation of anything at this point.”
Attorney Kate Bell of the Marijuana Policy Project commented, “There have been shortages in other states just because the demand is so overwhelming, especially initially.”

According to Jake Van Wingerden, president of the Maryland Wholesale Medical Cannabis Trade Association, he believes it will take 60 to 90 days before the state’s legal cannabis growers can ramp up to fully meet supply.
