While Governor Charlie Baker is trying to watch out for the health of residents of Massachusetts, many marijuana dispensaries are not happy with the choices he has made.

A group of marijuana dispensaries are suing Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker over his decision to shutdown recreational pot operations in an effort to slow the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

The lawsuit filed Wednesday is asking the court to allow recreational pot shops to reopen. According to the group, the closure will cause serious harm to the industry.

Governor Baker has said that keeping the stores open would harm the state’s ability to control the spread of the virus because they draw many customers from other states where recreational marijuana remains illegal.

Boston, the capital of the state, reported 310 new coronavirus cases Thursday, marking the biggest single-day increase in the city in the outbreak so far, according to Mayor Marty Walsh.

Four new deaths in the city have brought its coronavirus-related death toll to 34, says Walsh, but he expects both numbers to rise.

“We’re entering the most crucial part of the outbreak, we’re at the beginning of the 2-3 week surge in cases,” Walsh said.

“I know it feels like we’ve been battling this virus for a year. The truth is we still have a long way to go,” Walsh added.
