Massachusetts has legalized recreational marijuana and now some will have to choose their marijuana over guns.

It was in June that Overwatch Outpost Outfitters in Charlemont, Massachusetts, posted a letter onto its Facebook from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The letter, written in 2011, notified gun dealers that having a state medical marijuana card doesn’t mean its legal for them to purchase a gun.

Owner of the store, Charles Ricko, said confusion from gun owners prompted him to put the letter up.

He stated, “We’ve had several people come into the store. They haven’t purchased guns, but people have made statements such as, ‘I’m a medical marijuana cardholder,’ and that marijuana is legal in Massachusetts now, so it shouldn’t affect them with buying a gun.”

According to federal law, any use of marijuana is unlawful.
