An extreme statement was made by Republican Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts recently over medicinal cannabis legislation.

According to the governor, legalizing medical marijuana in the state would kill people’s kids and stated, “If you legalize marijuana, you’re gonna kill your kids.”
To back up his opinion, Ricketts cited two instances of people who consumed extremely high doses of marijuana and then died by suicide.

One case was a 19-year-old who jumped from a balcony in 2014 after eating six times the recommended dose of a marijuana cookie while the other was a 23-year-old who had been consuming dabs, a highly concentrated form of THC, in the weeks leading to his death.

Both situations were very unfortunate but neither one have anything to do with medicinal cannabis.

In fact, medical cannabis has been shown to improve and threat chronic pain and inflammation, help with nausea and alleviate many other ailments.

The plant is now legal in 33 states as well as D.C. in medicinal form.

“This is a dangerous drug that will impact our kids,” said Ricketts, citing data he has found from around the nation.

His full statement made at a press conference reads as follows, “It is dangerous to go around the established process we have to determine whether or not drugs are safe and effective and why legalizing marijuana and going around the regulatory process to keep people safe is dangerous and going to harm our kids.”

Needless to say the governor has been slammed hard for his statement.
