Nevada just became the fifth state to allow legal recreational marijuana sales on July 1st. The other four states are Alaska, Oregon, Washington and Colorado. The demand has been so high that the state has run out of marijuana. In order to get marijuana from the farm or where it is grown to the actual store, the state will be issuing delivery licenses to certain suppliers.

Nevada limits which companies can participate in the supply of marijuana. With this rule, managers of dispensaries have been worried that they won’t be able to restock fast enough.

The first license to transport the plant to a store was just issued this week. It was given to Blackbird Logistics Corporation who began shipping almost immediately. Rebel One, a liquor distributor, was the second to receive a license. Nevada is now preparing to issue the third license.

“The dam has been broken and stuff is starting to trickle in,” said Al Fasano, COO of the Las Vegas dispensary ReLeaf.

It was just this week that the state’s Tax Commission voted unanimously to approve “emergency regulations” to see if there are enough liquor distributors to supply the 47 legal dispensaries in Nevada. The commission is working towards deciding on if they should allow non-liquor companies to distribute.

“This is not the fault of the distributors,” said Kevin Benson, an attorney representing the liquor industry in its lawsuit. “It is because the licensing process was badly delayed due to the Department’s initial, erroneous, determination back in March that alcohol distributors were insufficient.”
