Hemp Building Leaders in Ukraine, Poland Prevail During Crisis

By Jean Lotus

Hemp building pioneers in Ukraine and Poland have responded to the Russian invasion with courage and generosity.

One of the world’s most respected international hemp builders, Ukrainian Sergiy “Doctor Hemphouse” Kovalenkov urged followers to share social media messages this week showing the destruction of an apartment building near his offices in Kyiv. Kovalenkov, president of Hempire UA, who travels the world promoting hemp building, said under martial law he is not allowed to leave the country.

“Civilians are getting killed, residential buildings are being attacked, yesterday a missile hit a building next to my office. It could have been me…,” Kovalenkov said.

NoCo Hemp Expo Warns: Beware of Scammers and Hotel Poachers

By Jean Lotus

As excitement builds around the 8th Annual NoCo Hemp Expo to be held at Gaylord Rockies Resort and Conference Center March 23-25, organizers are spreading the alarm about online “list scammers” and “hotel poachers” who have latched onto trade shows and conferences worldwide.

Shady online companies, mostly based overseas to skirt the U.S. legal system, offer to sell fake exhibitor or attendee lists. Other illicit companies claim that hotels for the event are full and offer to book alternate lodging. Participants duped by these scams may have their credit card charged for a fake hotel, or arrive to find no reservations.

Support H.R. 841, The Hemp and Hemp-Derived CBD Consumer Protection and Market Stabilization Act
In September 2020, U.S. Reps. Kurt Schrader (D-OR) and Morgan Griffith (R-VA) introduced the Hemp and Hemp-Derived CBD Consumer Protection and Market Stabilization Act – a bill which would provide a clear legal pathway for the sale of hemp extracts like CBD, while ensuring that products must comply with the rigorous regulatory framework existing for dietary supplements. The bill garnered broad bi-partisan support. On Feb. 7, 2021, Reps. Schrader and Griffith and 17 of their colleagues reintroduced the bill as H.R. 841. Support passage of the bill here.

Urge Your Members of Congress to Support Our Troops’ Access to CBD
On July 20, 2020, the U.S. House of Representatives approved an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to allow service members to use products containing hemp, including CBD. Unfortunately, the amendment was not included in the Senate’s version of the NDAA, which passed on July 23, and was not included in the final bill. However, as a new Congress meets this year, they are hoping for another hearing. Learn more.
