Romanian Designer Brings Old-World Styling to Hemp Fashions

Ionut Rus is passionate about producing elegant and sustainable 100% hemp clothing. The founder of De IONESCU spoke to Let’s Talk Hemp from Sibiu, Transylvania, Romania.

How did your career lead you to hemp?

In school I studied business and economics. But my main passion since I was a little boy was clothes. In high school and university I would buy things in vintage or secondhand shops and, with a good friend who was a tailor, adjust and sell them. After that I was bringing in clothes from China and selling them online from Bucharest. It was a side hustle for pocket money during school.

After completing my master’s degree in international business and management at the University of Groningen in The Netherlands, I took a job in Prague in 2016. I was a recruiter and lasted a year and a half. That experience led to a solemn vow that I will never take an office job and I will always work for myself.

Hemp on the Agenda at Southern Textile Association Meeting in North Carolina

A recent STA Northern Division meeting featured a panel discussion on bringing hemp textile production back to the U.S.

By Elizabeth Lunt

Hemp was on the agenda at a Southern Textile Association meeting held last month in North Carolina. The April 18 event at the Wilson College of Textiles at North Carolina State University in Raleigh included a presentation titled “Hemp: Farm, Fiber, Fabric & Fashion – The Path Forward,” which examined the current state of the hemp textile supply chain in the United States.

Devin Steele, secretary/treasurer of the 115-year-old organization, said that only two hemp speakers had ever previously presented at an STA meeting, Daniel Yohannes, CEO of Renaissance Fiber, and Guy Carpenter, president of Bear Fiber. Yohannes and Carpenter were on hand to moderate the April panel.

Colorado Intoxicating Cannabinoid Legislation Threatens an Industry, Fails to Protect Patients and Endangers America’s Children

By Hunter Buffington (Agriculture Policy Solutions) part of the Alliance for Safe Hemp that includes Alan Lewis (Natural Grocers) and Thuy Vu (Thuy Vu consulting) among others.

Colorado has been leading the US in developing a safe and federally compliant hemp CBD industry since we initiated our program in 2014. Colorado farmers jumped in to register, grow and harvest the first legal hemp crop in over 80 years. Coloradans now have reliable access to federally compliant, safe CBD products of all kinds.

At the same time, an unacceptable practice is the new business of creating novel intoxicating compounds like synthetic Delta 8 THC, which has been implicated in an increase of adverse events across the country. To make matters worse, these are being sold outside of age-restricted dispensaries.

Help Rebuild Ukraine With Hemp
Sergiy Kovalenkov, aka Doctor Hemphouse, one of the world’s renowned specialists in building with hemp, is appealing to the hemp industry for help in rebuilding war-torn Ukraine, including building Ukraine’s biggest social housing project to date — a 10,000-square-foot residential building to house refugees and orphans who lost their parents to the war. In particular, the project is seeking builders, sponsors, automated block-making machinery and a hempcrete spraying system.
