With a common mission of providing healthful, eco-friendly and socially responsible products to consumers, hemp companies often have philanthropy ingrained in their brands’ DNA. Given that, the industry is well positioned to play a lead role in helping society address many of the problems facing the world today.

The month of December, with its focus on family, community and giving, presents an opportunity to highlight some of the nonprofit organizations that work with leaders in the hemp sector to help solve some of the pressing issues of our time. There are many organizations doing great work — below find a list of 10 organizations this writer has interacted with in some capacity over the years and identified as potentially worthy of your awareness, consideration and support in the coming year.

7 Questions to Ask Before You Buy Any Hemp Seed

Interested in growing hemp next year? Here are the first seven questions you need to ask. They’ll give you the information you need to make an informed and profitable decision. The 2018 Farm Bill made industrial hemp legal under federal law. But your state hemp program interprets the federal guidelines. You can get a lot of helpful information from the U.S. Department of Agriculture website. Let’s dig into those questions.

Why Are You Growing Hemp?

That’s the first question. Is it because you see it as a crop more profitable than what you’re growing now? If so, have you sat down and crunched the numbers on potential hemp production versus other crops? You want to make sure that conclusion is correct. Have you thought of planting part of your acreage in hemp to get a feel for how it performs on your property.
