It was a reassuring day on Thursday for medicinal marijuana users when the Senate Appropriations Committee approved language that would protect medical marijuana operations.

As part of the justice and science appropriations bill, language used blocks the Justice Department from targeting either users or providers of medical cannabis in states that legally allow the practice.

Aaron Smith, executive director of the National Cannabis Industry Association celebrated the news and remarked, “Once again, members of Congress have signaled that protecting state-legal medical cannabis is no longer a controversial issue.”
