According to scientists, it’s not looking good for teenagers who regularly use alcohol and marijuana.

The study, which tracked the effects of both on 1,165 young adults, found that boys are less likely to obtain a degree or have a full time job.

University of Connecticut researchers conducted the study that had its findings presented at the American Public Health Association 2017 Annual Meeting & Expo in Atlanta, Georgia.

Every participant in the study began when they were 12 years old and were monitored every two years until they reached an age between 25 and 34.

Lead researcher on the study, Dr. Elizabeth Harari commented, “Awareness of marijuana’s potentially deleterious effects will be important moving forward. This study found that chronic marijuana use in adolescence was negatively associated with achieving important developmental milestones in young adulthood.’

Findings found that long-term alcohol or cannabis use may have a more severe effect on young men rather than women. The use hurt the chances of the men obtaining a degree, having a full-time job, a highly paid career, or happily being married.

The study has shown the effects of what marijuana and booze may do a decade after using it long term.
