With complaints piling in since Illinois began legal recreational marijuana sales on January 1st, the state has extended medical marijuana store hours.

The Department of Financial and Professional Regulation said last Friday that medical sales can now continue until 10 p.m.

Previously the department had cut off sales of medical marijuana at 8 p.m., while other sales were allowed until 10 p.m

The department has also reminded retailers to prioritize medical cannabis patients during product shortages in a separate statement released last week.

With supply being limited, some dispenaries have had to limit the amount of products people can purchase and have even cut their business hours.

“Our department will continue working to ensure patients receive the level of service they have come to expect from our medical cannabis program,” Secretary Deborah Hagan said.

Legal marijuana sales totaled nearly $40 million in the first month in Illinois.
