There’s a new documentary that has opened in some theaters this month that explores medicinal marijuana for kids with cancer.

Called Weed the People, the documentary explores the potential of the drug for childhood cancers and the regulatory hurdles that people face trying to use the substance.

The documentary’s executive producer is Ricki Lake, a former talk-show host, who follows five families that use cannabis oils to treat cancer in kids.

Lake’s late ex-husband Christian Evans was a researcher of cannabidiol (CBD) for his own health issues. Evans killed himself in 2017.

“I want to get people seeing it as a medicine, seeing what it was able to do for these children, and fight for this medicine to be available to everyone who needs it,” Lake says. “It’s a human rights issue.”
