Christian Bax, the medical marijuana director in the state of Florida, has abruptly stepped down from office.

The Department of Health announced on Friday that his resignation would take effect on August 10th and Deputy Director Courtney Coppola has been named the interim director.

Bax had been a target of lawmakers and patients regarding delays in the state’s program. He led the Office of Medical Marijuana since its inception in 2015.

In his resignation letter he stated, “It has been an incredible honor to have served the Department and the State of Florida in the task of building something entirely new in the state.”

Orlando attorney John Morgan remarked, “This guy was so terrible for sick and injured people that anyone would be better suited. I feel like his actions were intentional.”
