Former Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson will be getting preliminary approval for a license to open a Michigan medical marijuana dispensary.

Johnson and his wife Brittney were approved for pre-qualification status on a 4-0 vote this week. The location has not been determined yet.

Johnson must be feeling relieved because it was this past December that him and his business partner Robert Sims had been denied licenses for a medical marijuana dispensary, grow operation and processing facility in Webberville.

The reason for the denial was partially contribued to unpaid traffic tissues that were issued to Johnson in Atlanta which were over a decade old.

Johnson flew to Atlanta and took care of the tickets.

Michael Stein, an attorney for Johnson, said, “Calvin is grateful and looks forward to operating with his brand Primitive in this new venture,” he said. “He’s hoping to have a big presence in the state.”

Michigan Medical Marijuana Licensing Board member Donald Bailey remarked, “Information contained in the new application explained some of the issues that were presented in the December applications,” Bailey said. “We didn’t have that information then, but it got taken care of.”
