A bill, named House Bill 481, which would legalize the recreational use of marijuana, has made its way to the House floor in Concord this week.

It was on Thursday that the House Criminal Justice Committee voted 10-9 in favor of the bill, which would end cannabis prohibition for adults over 21.

If it passes, a person will be legally allowed to possess marijuana and would be permitted to have six plants, or 12 plants total for a household.

According to projections in the bill, legalization would generate between $20 million and $31 million for the state.

Rep. Renny Cushing, the chairman of the House Criminal Justice committee, is the prime sponsor of the bill. He stated to the NPHR, “It was a historic vote. For the first time in history the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee voted to recommend that we put an end to the prohibition of cannabis and enact a law to provide for the legalization, regulation and taxation.”

Unfortunately Gov. Chris Sununu has vowed to veto the bill.
