It was a very busy day at the ABC Board building in Arkansas on Monday. Over 300 people who want to grow and distribute marijuana in the state’s initial medical marijuana crop had shown up to apply and submit their applications.

People even arrived the night before and slept in a lawn chair in order to be first in line to submit.

Regardless of this, the applicants still faced hours of waiting time as the number of people who showed up outnumbered the number of clerks that were available to review their paperwork and ensure that it was complete.

Those who submitted applications were required to pay $15,000 as part of the application fee. Distributors had to pay $7,500. The applicants who are unsuccessful with be refunded half of their money.

It was in 2016 that Arkansas voters approved the use of marijuana for people that have certain medical conditions.

The state’s Medical Marijuana Commission will review applications after the names of companies and individuals have been redacted.

Up to five growers and 32 distributors will be selected.
