Scientists have found that chemicals in the liverwort plan have similarities to marijuana’s primary ingredient THC.

Using over 100 mice in experiments, the scientists were able to find that the plan had produced four of the same key effects such as THC.

According to a study that was published this week in Science Advances, mice had been injected with the experimental chemicals and after an hour, they had entered a trance-like state, became less responsive to pain, saw their body temperature drop. and lost some ability to move.

The scientists said that the compounds were only “moderately potent,” which means marijuana’s THC is still trumping.
