According to analysts and retailers, the city of San Diego in southern California may run out of marijuana this summer.

There are two reasons for this. One, the government hasn’t been approving cultivation licenses quickly enough to meet the demand that is expected. Two, California is getting ready to prevent the sale of marijuana that fails to meet quality control standards.

“There is a worry among our members that there could be a shortage over the summer,” remarked Dallin Young, the executive director for the Association of Cannabis Professionals.

“With the increase in tourists, in addition to the already high demand among San Diegans, there just might not be enough adult-use cannabis to go around.”

San Diego currently is the only place in the county where customers can buy recreational marijuana.

“July is the busiest sales month of the year, so there could be a shortage if there’s not enough pesticide-free adult-use cannabis available,” predicted Will Senn. Senn runs Urbn Leaf marijuana stores in the city.

“The testing is meant to protect the public’s health,” he explained.
