Recreational marijuana could be going on sale in the next few weeks in San Francisco.

California is getting closer and closer to January 1st, when recreational marijuana is scheduled to be legal.

San Francisco may have the drug go on sale on January 5th, that is if the city’s mayor quickly signs legislation that is approved by the Board of Supervisors.

Recreational weed could be on sale in San Francisco as soon as Jan. 5 if the mayor quickly signs legislation approved by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

Supervisors adopted regulations that cannabis advocates are in favor of, but rejected attempts that would mandate a larger barrier between schools and marijuana stores. It also rejected provisions that allow neighborhoods to limit the number of pot shops or be able to ban them.

A second vote is required for the legislation on Tuesday by the board.

Edit: The board voted 10-1 in approval of the legislation.
