According to a report in the Reno Gazette Journal, Nevada state officials have suspended a Reno marijuana grower’s license recently as it cracks down on its legal cannabis industry.

State officials had made surprise visits to marijuana testing laboratories statewide earlier this week. Nevada Department of Taxation officials suspended the license of Helios, a cultivator operating on Stillwell Avenue in Reno.

There are 13 registered owners of the cultivator, which grows medical and recreational product, per the Department of Taxation’s most recent list of licensees.

“This comes as a shock to me, to learn that the license was suspended. At this point in time, we are doing an assessment of the matter, and to my knowledge there is nothing that took place to warrant or result in a suspension of the license,” said Kiera Sears, who is one of the owners of the cultivator.

“We take this matter very seriously, and I remain hopeful and optimistic in its positive resolution.”

Sears said the state issued a report to the cultivator as to why the license was suspended, but she would not disclose the reason.

“I sincerely hope that the Department of Taxation really felt that this was necessary and that this was the only measure or remedy available to them in the interest of public health and safety and that this is being treated with the utmost care and consideration because this is not something to be taken lightly on either end of the table,” Sears said.

“These are people’s livelihoods and careers that are on the line. I know how hard everyone works. And how much respect they have for this industry, for the state, and for the statutes and regulations by which they abide.”
