The City Council in San Luis Obispo, California, approved its new cannabis ordinance this week, that makes the city the first in the county to allow recreational marijuana stores.

The draft marijuana law was unanimously passed and will allow up to three retail storefronts on major arterial roads. The roads include South Higuera, Tank Farm Road, and Broad Street.

The ordinance is not yet official and still needs to wait for the city to address how marijuana will be taxed before it can go into effect.

Provisions of the new law include that cannabis consumption will not be allowed at events nor in stores or businesses. It also states that cannabis retail stores must be 300 feet from residential zones and 1,000 feet from schools and parks within designated zones.
