According to Mahmoud ElSohly, an Egyptian-born American pharmacologist known for his research into cannabis, marijuana that has 8% THC is way too high.
The head of the nation’s only federally authorized marijuana farm is confused as to why people would want marijuana that has 15% or more THC.
It was in a podcast interview in August that ElSohly said the demand for higher potency research-grade cannabis had increased over the last twenty years.
According to ElSohly. studies using his facility’s products demonstrated that even marijuana with just eight percent THC proved too powerful for subjects.
After one researcher obtained cannabis with eight percent and incorporated it into his study, ElSohly said he received a call from the scientist who said “my most experienced subject could not tolerate the eight percent.”
“The point is, eight percent THC in a plant material is extremely high potency for somebody to actually finish a cigarette,” said ElSohly.
