According to Florida’s state patient registry, there is an average of 264 people being added every day.

The state’s health officials announced this week that Florida is moving forward with the outsourcing of medical marijuana id cards.

Department of Health spokeswoman Mara Gambinieri said, “The rate of growth of this program has proven that we cannot wait for a protest without impacting patients currently suffering from qualifying medical conditions.”

According to Christian Bax, the executive director of the Office of Medical Marijuana use, it takes an average of 30 days for an id card to be processed. Some patients are saying however that it takes 35 to 90 days.

People who suffer from the following ailments are able to apply for a medical marijuana card in Florida: epilepsy, cancer, any terminal condition, chronic muscle spasms, HIV and AIDS, glaucoma, ALS, Crohn’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, PTSD, multiple sclerosis and similar conditions.

There are a total of 54,120 patients in the state’s medical marijuana registry. Only a little over 29,000 cards have been printed so far.
